Volunteer Florida strengthens communities through volunteerism and service. The Governor appoints 25 person Commission to grant funds, encourage volunteerism (youths to seniors to persons with disabilities), and to support Volunteer Centers. A Naples citizen was appointed to the Commission in December 2005.

Volunteer Florida groups in Northern Florida are building ramps for homes that need them. Florida Association of Volunteer Centers work
= To strengthen and increase the growth of volunteerism in Florida
= To provide a network of support and professional development among
directors of Volunteer Centers in Florida
= To conduct educational training programs
= To dispense all funds exclusively for charitable or educational purposes
VOLUNTEERS are there to help Friendship Volunteer Resource Center
The Southwest Florida part of Florida Association of Volunteer Centers helps with Friendship Volunteer Resource Center in Lee county which has far too many volunteer activities to describe here. For example the Teens Program helps the community in these ways, just to name a few.
= Food Bank – Volunteers to sort food, pack and label boxes.
= Community Cooperative – Volunteers to visit people and play cards, read, visit,
sew, etc
= Volunteers for beautification projects (painting, tree and shrub planting, tree
trimming/removal, home, yard, and street beautification).
= Diaper drive, baby clothes/accessories formula, and other baby items, helping moms, babies, and families in our community to build stress free, parenting skills through intensive home visiting program. = Reading Project - drop off new books for children. Books are distributed to families to read aloud to their children to help them build relationships and prevent Child Abuse.

They hold an annual Volunteer Fair every January, to provide "one-stop shopping”
for the community to identify volunteer opportunities they would like help with.
